Busen Arakawa was the most senior student of Kanki Izumikawa of the Senbukan dojo which he joined in 1949. In 1955 he opened the Suginami branch dojo of the Senbukan and in 1957 he received the title of Renshi from the Dai Nippon Butokukai.
